Job Finding can be hazardous to your health! It’s true! According to the American Optometric Association, staring at the computer screen for too long can cause Computer Vision Syndrome. Symptoms include headaches, neck pain and blurred vision.

Other side effects of looking online for jobs include frustration, depression, heartache and couch-potatoeness. The truth is only a small percentage of people (2-5%) ever find jobs from online posting sites. The competition is extraordinary and employers are overwhelmed by ad responses.

If you want to find work, especially meaningful, lucrative work, you’ll have to be more focused, determined and assertive. Contacting targeted employers directly using a well crafted elevator pitch is still, by far the best way to find the hidden job market. These and many other effective job finding suggestions are available in the CWI Job Finding Program, Design @ Work.
